Camp Moomba comes to Ribbon

We are so glad to welcome the Camp Moomba community to Ribbon. We are looking forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and getting to know all campers and their families.

I’m happy to share that preparations for this year’s camp are already underway, and we are pleased to be returning to YMCA Camp Elphinstone from August 3-7, 2026.

We are still in the process of building our full Camp Moomba team and processes here at Ribbon. For now, we can confirm camp will be open to children and youth age 6 through 17 on the first day of camp (August 3, 2026) and we will cover all travel costs for campers living in British Columbia.

Here are some dates to keep in mind:

  • June 1 – camper pre-registration forms available
  • June 28 – last day to submit a one page camper interest form
  • July 6, 2026 – Ribbon will confirm campers attendance and reach out about travel arrangements and what else to expect
    • We will prioritize campers who are living with HIV and live in British Columbia
    • HIV-negative campers with a parent or caregiver living with HIV are also welcome to attend, space permitting
  • July 6 – July 17 – Ribbon will work with families to collect all necessary health and medical information, arrange travel, and set up campers and families for success

We will continue to offer transportation to and from a central location in Surrey and Vancouver. Due to changes at Elphinstone, the first day of camp will be a Monday, and we will return to the Lower Mainland on Friday late afternoon.

If spaces remain after July 6, we will continue to accept applications until the spaces are filled.

We would love to hear from your anyone in your family who might be interested in participating this summer.

We are also recruiting people who are qualified to administer oral medication, provide first aid, and general health support for campers, volunteers, and staff at Camp Moomba. Honoraria will be provided to the health care team and volunteers. All Camp Moomba team members must complete a Criminal Record Check (at Ribbon’s expense), demonstrate a commitment to our purpose and values, support a welcoming,  respectful, and fun space for all 30 or so of our campers, and have experience working with children and/or youth, and people living with HIV.
