We opened our doors as AIDS Vancouver in 1983 as one of the first AIDS service organization in Canada. in response to the growing need for community health organizations to support individuals living through the AIDS epidemic.
As part of our 30th anniversary, we worked with Be The Change Group to create 30 films documenting one part of each year of the HIV response in Vancouver, from 1983 to 2013. These films, part of The 30 30 Campaign, are available for free on our YouTube channel. They do not tell the whole story of the HIV response: it is based on 59 interviews with medical health officers, community organizers, nurses, doctors, and the loved ones of those who were lost.
The HIV In My Day archive at the University of Victoria is available online and includes 108 interviews with those who were there, whether living with HIV or caregiving in the earliest days of this response.
