CHERRY GROVE MEMORIAL ANNIVERSARY
October 20 | 3:00 - 5:00 PM
40 years ago this October, early activists planted three Cherry Blossom trees in a slightly out of the way spot near Stanley Park. Honouring some of the first HIV/AIDS deaths in the country, the grove is known as the oldest AIDS memorial in North America. At the time it was planted, fears of vandalism meant the site stayed only known through word of mouth.
Please join Ribbon Community and Cocksure Performance on Monday, October 20 starting at 3pm in grief and celebration. We invite you to gather with us to mark this significant anniversary as a time to reflect on half a century of local HIV/AIDS activism and look ahead to the future it made possible.
Food will be provided, alongside remarks from a variety of people involved in the local HIV/AIDS activism, group and individual opportunities to reflect on lives lost and lives changed as a result of the HIV epidemic.
Please take a moment to register for this event to support our planning process and ensure we are aware of all accessibility needs and requests for this event. We are able to respond to individual access needs requested by Monday, October 13.
